אלו הדברים מהתרשמות ראשונית שלי,
ברמה העקרונית ממש לא משעמם , הרבה דברים שונו, בעיקר ב Look and feel, וקצת ביכולות.
בגדול נראה נחמד ומרענן.

סביבת עבודה - בעבר InfoView
הסביבה השתפרה מאוד, בעיקר בעובדה שאפשר לפתוח כמה Session במקביל ז"א כמה דוחות ואפילו מסוגים שונים בלי להיות תלוי בדפדפן
מסודרת קצת שונה עם כל מיני לשוניות בעלות יעוד שונה, על טעם וריח אין מה להתווכח.

דוח ה וובי
נוספו גרפים שונים, סוף סוף אפשר לעצב את הגרפי ברזלוציה נמוכה יותר , למשל סוף סוף אפשר לסדר את הLables בנפרד מגודל הגרף והם לא תלויים אחד בשני, העיצוב השתפר מעט ומזכיר את ה Xcelsius קצת.
ממשק העובדה השתנה לגמרי ומתחיל לצעוד לכיוון הריבונים של האקסל, גם פה צריך להתרגל. תוך כדי בניית הדוח יש כל מיני תוספות של Query Result זמני וכו'.

השכבה הסמנטית
פה יש מלא שינויים בעיקר בתוספת של העולם ה UNX שכולל שכבות על שכבות על שכבות על שכבות השד יודע למה זה טוב, בטוח נמצא סיבה טובה בקרוב (חוץ מהעובדה של Multi Connecion)

התממשקות עם האולפ וה אנאליטיק המפורסם
נראה שהוא יותר יציב, אחרי שיודעי דבר פרסמו שהוא נכתב מהתחלה לגמרי. כלי הקצה נשאר אותו דבר, לדעתי הוא ממש לא מהווה תחרות טובה לאף כלי של Olap Viewer בינתיים כגון Panorama

Xcelsius
נשאר בגדול אותו דבר חוץ מ ה Query הפנימי שלו שמאפשר התחברות ישירות לעולם UNX רלציוני בלבד.

Widget on air
זה נהיה חלק אינטגרלי בהתקנה, זה נחמד עובד די יציב כבר מהפעם הראשונה בלי תוספות מיוחדות

CMC
נוספו כל מיני יכולות של Monitor ובקרה על השרת שליפות וכו' שווה מבט
נוספה יכולות של Visual Differences שאמורה להשוות דברים שווים כפילויות בעולם דוחות וכו' שלא שווה כלום היא מתאימה להשוואת סוג אובייקט אחד בלבד כרגע (שכחתי איזה אובייקט זה מרוב אכזבה)

Mobile
יש התייחסות ייעודית ל Mobile אשמח לשמוע אם מישהו התנסה אם זה או הצליח לקנפג את החיה הזאת.

Why consider upgrading to BO 4.x

SAP BusinessObjects (BO) 4.0 suite now matured and proven. It's now on GA.
The big question is is it worth all that wait and what all do I get in 4.0 that I never had in XI 3.1
To the first question I do think getting BO more integrated into SAP is worth the wait. This is the first step in a SAPized BO.

The second is:

1.BO 4.x can finally translate the ECC Hierarchies as the MDX only option, now has a BICS addition.

2. BO Universe (semantic layer) can now be sourced from multiple databases, overcoming a major obstacle of previous versions.

3.The BO Universe can now access MOLAP (cubes from Microsoft Analysis Services, Essbase, Mondrian, etc.) data sources directly via MDX without having to “flatten them out” first. In prior versions, Universe could only access SQL sources.

4. BEx queries can directly feed WebI, Crystal Reports and Xcelsius (Now crystal Dashboard but still the same under the hood with some improvements)

5.There’s now a more harmonized 'Look & Feel' that we expect from SAP BI Products. Crystal, WebI, Explorer, and Analysis (former BEx). This is another step in the right direction to unify SAP BI products, but it’s still not a complete solution. It will be a while before all SAP BI products are semlessly integrated as a single offering of solution.

6. .All SAP BI tools, including Xcelsius (Dashboards in 4.0), that did not have access to BO Universe now do.

7.There’s now a tighter integration with BW via direct exposure of BW metadata (BEx queries and InfoProviders) to all BO tools.
Though a blessing on one side it will create complications as without universe one will have to maintain security and Auth in the BW layer - som,ething that we could do in the Universe. SAP only allows ECC data to be extracted via BW moving forward. So plan accordingly.

8.Improved BI/BW performance. We have seen this in a new installation and an upgrade from XI 3.1 at actual customer sites. Starting with 4.0, BW we have a unique set of proprietary SAP APIs that are 4+ times faster than APIs that are available to the other BI tools. I am assuming that what this means is that from now on, with the right standards, processes and design BW access by BusinessObjects will be faster than by any other BI tool.

9.Last but not least, 4.0 is the first version highly optimized for the HANA in-memory appliance. Previous versions and other BI tools will also work with HANA; that should not be the primary factor in your decision whether to upgrade to 4.0 or not, but it’s indeed another variable in the mix. What does “optimized” mean in this case? Remember, all of your BI applications (with the exception of in-memory specific BI apps) were written and optimized for accessing disk-based RDBMSes. Chunks of code that were written specifically for that purpose can now be removed, and that code can be optimized for direct memory data access. That’s indeed what SAP has accomplished in version 4.0.

Upgrading your BO to 4.0 from XI R2 and R3 is as simple as “just opening the old Universe/reports in the new environment,” as SAP now provides an upgrade management tool to guide users through the process. There were about 100 customers in the ramp-up program, and we haven’t heard any complaints so far. But if you are on an earlier version, unfortunately, it has to be a two-step process: using existing conversion wizards to convert to R3 first and then using the new upgrade management tool to go to 4.0.

אפשר להבחין בקלות שרוב השיפורים הם סביב ה BW התחום הרלציוני שהוא התחום החזק והנפוץ בכלי כמעט ולא קיבל שום שיפור וחבל מאוד !!
תחום ה OLAP Voyager לשעבר נשאר די עלוב, כך שחוץ מ שיפורים מעטים בגרפים, ממשק משתמש שונה עם תוספות פה ושם (כפי שציינתי קודם) עדיין לא מצאתי משהו שאוכל להגיד וואווו... לזה חיכתי כבר הרבה זמן....

שינויים נוספים:

1. HANA – הוא שינוי טכנולוגי ותפיסתי אדיר, רכיב זה לבדו קפיצת דרך משמעותית בביצועים ובחלוקה המסורתית של BI ,
Real Time ETL וצמצום שכבות ה-ETL המסורתיות.

2. לא הייתי מזלזל בשינויים ב-BW :ישנם המון ארגונים בארץ ובייחוד בעולם שיוכלו כעת ליהנות באמת מקורת גג אחד למוצרי ה-BI של SAP שעד אתה הופרדו ל-SAP Business Objects ול –BW,לא חסרים ארגונים שנתקעו עם תשתיות מחסן מבוזרות בשל היעדר תכונה זו או נתקעו בפרוייקטים שלא יכלו לחשוף מידע מהקובייה ב-BW ב-BO.

3. סנכרון עם מכשירי Mobile ו-Tablets (כלול בהתקנה ) :

You can copy queries, variables, tables and charts from one document to another. When you copy an
object, all its dependent objects are copied. For example, all the queries, hierarchies, dimensions,
measures and variables that supply data to a table are copied when the table is copied.
Tables and charts can be copied with or without formatting or data.
Enhanced copy and paste is available in the Java interface and in Interactive Analysis Desktop

לראות את הדברים בראייה של סוג גרף,group by וכו' היא תפיסה שגוייה בעיני.

הפוקוס של הפלטפורמה הוא לא בפיצ'ר כזה או אחר,הוא בתפיסה כולה,ברכיבי החבילה,בטכנולוגיות החדשות ששולבו בה ,ברכיבים החדשים וביכולות המשופרות וההתממשקות שלה ומכל הבחינות הללו נעשתה כאן קפיצה משמעותית ביותר אם כי בהחלט זה לא סוף הסיפור וישנם עדין רכיבים ותכונות חסרות.

הי,

יש איזה משהו שקצת הפתיע אותי לרעה: למיטב ידיעתי,הם הסירו את התמיכה בגרסאות ישנות של DB: אורקל 9 וSql server 2000 ודרומה.

נכון שרוב הארגונים כבר עובדים עם גרסאות חדשות יותר, אך מדי פעם אני עדיין נתקל בגרסאות מהבוידעם.
